A product photograph can show shape, material, scale and use. Before the session, consider what a shopper needs to understand without touching the product. This turns the shot list into useful information rather than several versions of the same view.
Give each image a purpose
Start with a clear view of the whole product. Add close details where they answer a real question: texture, finish, dimensions or the way something is used. Not every product needs every type of image. Select views that help the viewer understand what they are considering.
Prepare before the session
- Clean, undamaged products and spares when appropriate.
- A list of products, colours and variations to photograph.
- Brand references and suitable background ideas.
- The channels where the images will appear.
- Essential details such as materials, attachments or included parts.
Keep the set consistent
Review spacing, backgrounds, product position and lighting across the full collection. Consistency helps the images work together in a store, while additional views can reveal the character of each individual item.
Check the delivered images at their intended sizes. Make sure the product remains clear in a small listing card and that the larger image contains the details a viewer needs.
